Butia paraguayensis (syn. Butia arenicola )
1m, dwarf Butia species from open grass lands in N Argentina to S Brazil. Makes a very short trunk, reaching a maximum 2m with age. Large, elegant silver green to bluish green, bowing feathered leaves. Still being a very rare species which bears few degrees of frost in autumn. Especially good container plant for a cool, yet frostfree greenhouse. If some seeds do not germinate in the first year of sowing, keep pots cooler (yet frostfree) and the soil semi-moist during winter. In following spring place them warmer and sunny, which induces germination in most seeds. USDA Climate Zone 9.
