Viola tricolor ssp. subalpina
15cm, almost spreading, annual to biannual Violet with small, either whitish yellow or pale mauve and lilac flowers. From partially shaded to sunny places in rocky soils in S Europe (Alps). A very nice, yet rarely seen subspecies for any rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot, where it will self-sow readily. Seeds are from the mauve flowered form. V-VII.
